I’m back again with another post to add to this blogging resources category, I’m really happy you guys have liked my blogging tips so much, I never thought it’d be such a successful post, so thanks for all the love.

Today I thought I’d share with you some tips to up your photography game. So, as you probably know most of the information on the internet is transmitted visually, research says that by 2020 84%+ of communication will be visual (source), so it’s only fair that we give our audience pretty things to look at, how? by stepping up our game.

Hoy pensé en compartir algunos tips para mejorar tus fotografías. Como probablemente sabes, la mayoría de la información en línea se transmite visualmente, las investigaciones dicen que para el 2020 más del 84% de la comunicación será visual (fuente), así que es justo que le demos a nuestra audiencia cosas bellas para mirar, ¿cómo? mejorando nuestra fotografía.

NATURAL LIGHT IS YOUR NEW BFF

Not only does it gives you higher quality images, but makes colors stand out, try to take your pictures outdoors or by a large window. You’ll see the difference.

La luz natural es tu mejor amiga, te ayuda a tener fotos de mayor calidad y ayuda a que los colores se apeguen más a la realidad, intenta tomar tus fotos afuera o cerca de una ventana grande. Notarás la diferencia.

INVEST IN YOUR EQUIPMENT

Whether you’re into blogging for the long run (making a living out of this) or just as a hobby, you won’t regret spending some money on a pro camera, the results you’ll be able to achieve are so much better than if you take your pics with a point and shoot or a cellphone (I know cellphone cameras are awesome these days, but nothing beats the real deal), and while you’re at it, learn how to use it, make the most of it.

Ya sé que estés en ésto a la larga (para convertirlo en una carrera) o como un hobby, no te arrepentirás de invertir en una cámara profesional, los resultados que alcanzarás serán muchísimo mejores que si tomas tus fotos con una cámara point and shoot o un celular (ya sé que las cámaras de los móviles son muy buenas en ésta época, pero nada le gana a las de verdad) y ya que estás en esto, aprende a usarla, aprovéchala.

HAVE PROPS READY

Visual aids are always a plus, think of stuff like flowers, books, make up, jewelry, candles and so on, I like to keep these at hand for when I’m taking flat lay pictures. Just, don’t over do it, try to find balance and remember that negative space is always a good thing too.

Los props siempre son un plus, piensa en cosas como flores, libros, maquillaje, joyería, velas, etc. me gusta tenerlos a la mano para cuando tomo fotografías de flat lays. Sólo no exageres, encuentra el balance y recuerda que a veces el espacio negativo es bueno también.

CREATE A PICTURE STOCK

There will be days where the conditions aren’t the best for picture taking, it’s raining outside, it’s way too cloudy, it’s too sunny, you’re sick, etc. don’t panic, that’s why I like keeping a picture stock, I like taking pictures of different things I know I might use at some point and then I save them in a folder on my laptop, just in case, well, you’ve no idea how helpful these have come.

Habrá días en los que las condiciones no son las mejores para tomar fotos, está lloviendo, está muy nublado, muy soleado, estás enferma, etc. no te asustes, es por eso que me gusta tener un archivo de fotografías, suelo tomar varias fotos de cosas que sé que podré usar en algún momento y las guardo en una carpeta en mi laptop, por si acaso, no sabes cómo me han ayudado.

REFLECT

There’s times where you’ll have the perfect picture but somehow there’s an unflattering shadow somewhere, well use a reflecting surface to bring light to that side and soften the shadow, seriously you don’t even need a fancy thing, lots of things will do, a piece of white fabric, a silver car sun shade, I use a piece of cardboard that I covered in foil. Give it a try!

Hay veces en las que tienes la foto perfecta, pero hay una horrible sombra en algún lugar, usa un reflejante para traer luz a ese lado y suavizar la sombra, de verdad que no necesitas nada muy acá, muchas cosas sirven para ésto, un pedazo de tela blanca, un parasol del auto en color plateado, yo uso un pedazo de cartón forrado con papel aluminio. ¡Inténtalo!

BACKGROUND

Play with different backgrounds and see which work for you, I like using a white foam board, and I hear it’s really popular, fur mats are also a popular choice and the beloved marble one can be made by sticking marble print stick paper to a white foam board, just experiment and stick to one or two options, this will help you stick to you brand and aesthetic.

Juega con diferentes fondos para ver cuál funciona para tí, a mi me gusta usar una hoja de foamy, sé que es bastante popular con muchos bloggers, los tapetes de peluche también lo son y el amado fondo de mármol que puedes crear pegando papel contact a una superficie rígida, se trata de experimentar y elegir uno o dos que vayan con tu brand y estética.

Yes, editing is not a dirty word, it will make your pictures pop up and look so much better! Just make sure you find the right software for you and I’m sure you can find lots of tutorials for it on Youtube, me? I use Photoshop and Lightroom.
