As I shared before, JUST LIKE HEAVEN turned 1 year old last month, how exciting is that? and it was a great year, not only did I met cool people, went to cool events, collaborated with awesome brands, but I also learned a lot of things, which I want to share with you today on this post.

blogging lessons

When I started blogging a year ago I knew it wasn’t easy, but oh man is it hard! Most people think that being a blogger is just about putting cute outfits together and taking a couple of pictures and then sharing them online, but they are so wrong about this.

There’s a lot of planning involved (and I’ll talk a bit about that ahead), and we are stylists, photographers, writers, content creators, social media managers, PRs, among many other things, and let me tell you, social media is the worst! It takes a lot of time and effort.

So don’t be surprised if you reach out to a blogger to promote your brand and they charge a fee for doing do, after all, it’s not an easy job.

If you think blogging is a random process, let me tell you how wrong you are my friend, if you’re thinking of starting a blog, heads up, you’ll need to be very organized, there’s a lot of planning involved, you need to schedule photo shoots, set time aside to write, research, and have everything done on time to publish as scheduled.

As I said, it is hard work, and time consuming, so you’re going to have to really love what you do in order to keep doing this for the long run, cause you’ll get tired, but if you really love doing this, your love for your blog will keep you going, no kidding.

I’ve had the opportunity to connect with some awesome people through this, even people in other sides of the world (s/o to Dana, Shei and Mario) I’ve also connected with awesome bloggers from my own country, and I gotta say, people often talk about how competitive and ugly this world is, well, ofc it is competitive, but all the bloggers I talk to are the sweetest and most caring and supportive people I’ve met, so don’t listen to the haters, find people how empower you.

    1. Aww thank you so so much Abby! I’ll make sure to schedule a post about this in detail, but it really comes down to how much you interact with other’s peoples blogs and the quality of the content you create 🙂 <3

You’re definitely doing pretty good at it! So proud of you babe! I wish for us to meet in the future! Hopefully I can be able to visit your side of the world soon. 😘💕

  11. I don’t think I realized how much work is “necessary” for blogging until I finally decided that no excuses, I would passionately blog about the topic that I am currently doing. That being said, I know that I still have a lot of room to grow in regards to putting more effort into what I do. I have never thought of it that way ( in terms of the many roles that we play)…I guess I am not that good at some of them, though. But all in time….all in time.

    1. I agree with you completely, I guess we all lack in some departments, but we make up for it with tons of effort and attitude 🙂

  12. Hi Daniela:

Your post really spoke out to me – especially the part where you iterate about hating bloggers who post once in three weeks and then the post daily for a week – I am one of those for sure. Being a housewife and having a full time job is tough to keep up with blog posts but I am trying my level best. A majority of my posts pertain to cooking instead of fashion so I definitely need to work on balancing both sides. If you have time, feel free to check out my blog posts at . Nice meeting you virtually Daniela and look forward to reading more of your blogs.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment, I don’t think I hate on those bloggers per se, but it is a bummer finding a blog you love with those patterns, keep up the good work sweetie!

  13. Great post! And happy blog anniversary!

I agree with everything you said. After trying blogging out myself (and still doing it), I really appreciate it a lot more. I’m still not the most organised when it comes to it but I hope one day, I come to a balance where I get it all right!

    1. Thank you! I guess it just comes with time, I bet you’ll get to a point where you’ll find a method that works for you, and probably only you, and that’s the beauty of it 🙂

  14. […] much more from blogging this way and much faster than I would have if I was left to my own devices! Daniela Soriano posted about what she learnt in her first year of blogging and I loved it. I have definitely spoken […]

  15. I mentioned you on my favourite blog posts of the week! Check it out here: xxx

    1. Thank you Ella! Will stop by, you’re the sweetest! <3

  16. Great post! So so true that it is so much harder than anyone ever thinks. I get so frustrated lately when I don’t blog for a few days, simply because I am really busy, and I get un-follows. I think to myself, okay- I don’t want followers that are not going to support my blogging self-care time too and are not willing to wait for a quality post! Social media has been the hardest part for me… figuring out why those unfollows are happening and the need to be more consistent with posting! Congrats on your 1 year- it is such a lovely blog and definitely something to be so proud of!

    1. Aww thanks so much Shannon! Social media is the worst! I get unfollows too, and I don’t really know why this happens, I see lots of other girls’ accounts growing so much, but then I realize is cause they make a ton of giveaways and that’s how they grow, but I’d rather have it grow at a slow rate but with loyal following 🙂

      1. Me too Daniela- exactly! It is not all about numbers!

  17. Congrats!! I just started and can’t wait to see what happens in a year!

    1. Thank you! Keep it up! You won’t regret it!

  19. Hola Daniela,
Great work 💪

  20. Thanks for your post! So true, especially the bit about being multi-professionals all on our own! I’ve been thinking about this increasingly as I’m venturing in to more technical territory myself. But then it’s so exciting to research and learn, and to discover just how much you can accomplish by yourself at first is empowering! However, I think you also learn the power of networking and being inspired by the experience of others. It’s a balance and an ultimately wonderful combination of factors.

    1. Absolutely! Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a nurturing comment! 🙂

  21. I’ve found the same things to be true for me! Keep up the good work!

    1. Then we are on the right path! 🙂
