A couple of months ago I decided to make a big change on an important matter in a women’s (or people who menstruate’s) life, and it was switching from tampons and pads to the famous and in vogue — menstrual cup.

Why did I decide to make the switch? Well, after a lot of researching and thinking, I came to the conclusion that modern problems i.e. global warming — need modern solutions, i.e. reducing our plastic waste, and one way to do it is switching from classic ways of collecting period blood (I know this might be TMI, but bear with me) to modern, waste free ones, like re-usable pads and the menstrual cup, I decided to go with the cup, and to be honest I couldn’t be happier with my choice, so today I want to share with you 5 reasons why the menstrual cup is the best thing you can try.

Hace un par de meses decidí hacer un cambio importante en algo importante en la vida de una persona que menstrua, y fue el cambiarme de los tampones y toallas a la famosa y en voga — copa menstrual.

¿Por qué decidí hacer el cambio? Pues, después de investigar y pensarlo, llegué a la conclusión de que los problemas modernos requieren soluciones modernas, por ejemplo el cambio climático necesita que reduzcamos nuestro consumo de plásticos y una manera de hacerlo es cambiándonos de los productos usuales para nuestro periodo a aquellos libres de desechos plásticos, como toallas reusables y la copa menstrual, decidí probar la copa, y para ser honesta no podría estar más feliz con mi decisión, por lo que hoy quiero compartirles cinco razones por las cuales la copa menstrual será lo mejor que te haya pasado.

1. IT IS WASTE FREE

   Once you get rid of tampons the cup is a waste free option since there’s no packagings, or any waste to get rid of whatsoever.

2. YOU SAVE MONEY

   You only need to buy a cup which at entry level may be more expensive than other options but it is only that one payment and the cup lasts for up to 10 years! Think of how much you spend monthly in period products.

3. YOU CAN WEAR IT FOR UP TO 12 HRS

   You only need to drain it every 12 hours, it is great for people who’re always on the go, it is super comfortable and you can even wear it while excersising.

4. IT’S BETTER FOR YOUR BODY

   Tampons and pads have lots of chemicals that are bad for your body, so switching to the menstrual cup means you won’t be putting any of those chemicals in your body anymore, also, no bad odors anymore, cause the bad odor from periods come from all the chemicals interacting with your bodily fluids and pH, so by bye to those.

5. YOU GAIN BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR PERIOD AND BODY

   I used to believe periods were the messiest things in the world, but ever since I started wearing the cup I’ve gained better understanding of how actually periods work and since I get to see what comes out of my body, I’ve started changing my view on periods.

1. LIBRE DE RESIDUOS PLÁSTICOS

   Ya que te deshaces de los tampones/toallas, la copa es una opción libre de residuos plásticos ya que no hay desechos o empaques que tirar a la basura.

2. AHORRAS DINERO

   Sólo necesitas una copa para todo tu periodo, quizá comprarla sea una inversión, pero solo la compras una vez y te dura hasta 10 años, que cuando lo comparas con el gasto mensual de otros métodos, te das cuenta de que al final vas a terminar ahorrando mucho dinero.

3. LA PUEDES USAR DURANTE 12 HRS

   Sólo se tiene que vaciar cada 12 horas lo cual es magnífico sobre todo si siempre estás ocupada, además es tan cómoda que puedes usarla hasta cuando hacer ejercicio.

4. ES MEJOR PARA TU CUERPO

   Los tampones y toallas tienen montones de químicos que para nada son buenos para tu cuerpo, al cambiarte a la copa eliminas esos químicos de tu vida, además se van los olores ya que estos son causados por el contacto entre los fluídos de tu cuerpo y estos químicos.

5. ENTIENDES MEJOR TU CUERPO Y PERIODO

   Yo solía pensar que mi periodo era la cosa más desastrosa del mundo, pero desde que empecé a usar la copa he comenzado a entender un poco más como funciona mi cuerpo.
