FEMINIST

To many people, Feminist is probably the dirtiest F word in the english language, one that I’m proud to carry around like a badge of honor, I think the first time I realized I was one was in junior high and as the years pass by, I’ve become more aware of the need for feminism in our world, I’ve also become more educated on the subject and my views and opinions on the subject have certainly grown and evolved.

Para muchas personas, la palabra Feminista es una palabra sucia, para mi es una que me da orgullo y porto como una medalla de honor, creo que la primera vez que me identifiqué como tal fue en la secundaria, y con forme pasan los años, me vuelvo más consciente de la necesidad de feminismo en nuestro mundo, me he educado cada vez más en el tema y mis opiniones en la materia han sin duda alguna, cambiado, madurado y evolucionado.

I don’t think this is the first time I’ve touched the subject on the blog, but just having worn the t-shirt on this outfit, made me want to bring it up again, cause I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel we’re living another wave of feminist consciousness and awareness, and it thrills me to be alive in this day and age where via the internet I get to see all my sisters fighting for equality.

Creo que no es la primera vez que hablo del tema en el blog, pero el haber usado ésta playera para el outfit del mismo, me dio ganas de sacarlo al tema nuevamente, porque no sé si soy sólo yo, pero siento que estamos viviendo otra ola de consciencia feminista, y me emociona tanto vivir en una época en la cual a través del internet puedo ver a todas mis hermanas luchar por la igualdad.

The coolest thing about feminism is that we’ve got a shot at all being treated the same, at valueing lives just for what they are, precious human lives, at a better, safer, more fair world, I’m thrilled of living and being a part of a generation that can take jokes, but that doesn’t think racist/misogynist jokes are funny, a generation who’s teaching their sons and daughters about consent, respect, equality and freedom, that’s the kind of society I want to raise my kids in.

Lo más cool del feminismo es que tenemos una oportunidad de ser tratados iguales, valorando las vidas por lo que son, valiosas vidas humanas, de vivir en un mundo mejor, más seguro y justo, me encanta saber que vivo y soy parte de una generación que puede reirse de un chiste, pero que ya no encuentra los chistes racistas y misóginos, graciosos, una generación que le está enseñando a sus hijos sobre el consentimiento, respeto, igualdad y libertad, esa es la clase de sociedad en la que quiero criar a mis hijos.

I want to teach my kids about the awesome things men and women have done throughout history, I want them to be whatever they want to be without fearing socially miscontrued gender roles and expectations, I want my sons to believe they can be ballet dancers, stay at home dads, scientists, doctors, nurses; I want my daughters to believe they can be astronauts, physicists, find the cure for cancer, have a family, not have a family, whatever they do, I want them to be happy doing so and not being afraid of judgement, you know?

Quiero enseñarles a mis hijos sobre las increíbles cosas que hombres y mujeres han logrado a través de la historia, quiero que puedan creer que pueden ser lo que quieran sin temer a los roles de género erróneamente creados, quiero que mis hijos crean que pueden ser bailarines de ballet, amos de casa, científicos, médicos, enfermeros; quiero que mis hijas crean que pueden ser astronautas, físicas nucleares, encontrar la cura para el cáncer, tener una familia, no tener una familia, que hagan lo que hagan, sean felices haciéndolo y que no teman a los juicios, ¿sabes?

So when I wear a t-shirt that says “I’m the type of woman you can’t control”, it has a meaning you know, cause, I don’t need to be controlled, cause if I were, I’d be admiting defeat, and us women are a force of nature, and those can’t be controlled nor contained, I refuse to be controlled, I want to eat the universe, hold the sun in my hands, swim in a pool of galaxies, and use stardust to do my make up, cause we can do all those things.

Así que cuando uso una playera que dice “Soy el tipo de mujer que no puedes controlar”, hay un significado detrás de ella ¿sabes?, porque, no necesito ser controlada, si lo fuera, estaría admitiendo la derrota, y las mujeres somos una fuerza de la naturaleza, y esas no se controlan ni contienen, me niego a ser controlada, quiero comerme el universo, tener el sol en mis manos, nadar en una alberca de galaxias, y usar polvo de estrellas para maquillarme, porque podemos hacer todo eso.
