WHY DID I DECIDE TO GO ON A DIET?

Hi guys! How’s it going? Here everything’s okay, I started this month with the best attitude and I’m just gonna roll with that.

¡Hola!

So, you know that the past year I’ve been on a journey to a healthier lifestyle, so almost a month ago I decided to take the next step on this path and I made an appointment with a nutritionist, I’ve been on a diet ever since (with a couple of cheat days hehe).

Now, most people in my life, who’ve heard that I’m doing this say stuff like “OMG, but you’re okay, you don’t need to lose weight” “but you’re already thin, why are you on a diet?”, well, let me tell you my friends, diets aren’t exclusive to weight loss, there are weight gain diets, detox diets, diets for people with food allergies, diets taylored for vegetarian/vegan people, diets taylored for people who suffer from diabetes, and so on.

In my case I’m doing this because being skinny doesn’t always mean you’re healthy, I wanted to learn how to eat properly, how to meassure my portions, and lose fat and gain muscle on the process, I know it probably sounds cliché AF, but strong is the new sexy, I want to be stronger since I’m working out steadily, but that’s something I’ll talk about on another post this month.

I’m not doing this to lose weight, what’ll probably happen is that I’ll gain some more pounds, cause muscle tissue is heavier than fat, so I’m not really focousing on the weight loss, but on fat percentage reduction. What do you think? Are you guys on any sort of diet? Any tips for when you get the cravings for stuff you’re not supposed to be eating?

  2. ahh this post is everything because so many times I’ve tried to go on a diet and everyone says to me that I don’t need to!! But losing weight is not the reason, I want to go on a diet because so often I feel so unhealthy – so this is such a great, inspiring post! ❤

    1. You should try it, do it for yourself, if it makes you feel good then that’s all you need, eating healthy is awesome! 🙂

  3. I had the same reactions from friends and family when I decided to make a lifestyle change a few months ago. You’re so right diets are not always about weight loss.
I feel so much more energetic and happy! My favorite healthy snack has been rice cakes with almond butter, blueberries, and coconut flakes on top! Good luck on your journey <3

    1. Thanks for your support, and that snack recipe sounds soooo good, I’ll have to try it! 🙂

  4. Totally get this! I love to eat healthy and detox not because I want to lose weight but I feel better about myself and want to be healthy, I also think it makes a huge difference to my skin. I really like the Eat Natural and Nakd bars for a sweet treat that isn’t so bad! X

    1. Thanks for that tip! It does make you feel better, more energized and less cranky, doesn’t it?

  5. I am struggling with diets and working out. I burn far more calories than my intake. I work out 7 days a week hard and its affecting my life hugely. I am trying my best to get on top of it but i have a massive mental block at the moment. A hurdle i must get over before i get seriously ill. I wish you luck on your new eating venture. Just be careful. From someone who knows the wrong way to go about it.

    1. Thanks Matt, that’s why I decided to go to a nutritionist, have you sought help for your problem? I really hope you get better! <3 take care!!

      1. I am in the process of sorting it. Its horrible for me at the moment

      2. Yes ive sort help from my doctor.

  6. I try substitutions like fruit, yogurt or a smoothie instead of chocolate or a pie. Smoothies are a great way to fill you up and get the proper nutrients you need on a daily basis. I also started taking hair, skin and nail vitamins and every once in awhile I take iron supplements. A diet usually consists of what we generally eat so I try to incorporate my fruits and vegetables into my diet. I also try to stick to leaner meats like turkey and chicken over beef/ham.

    1. Those tips are awesome! What I realized when my nutritionist helped me build a suitable diet was that I actually have a good idea of what healthy eating is, I just need to measure my portions the right way and stay away from added sugar 🙂 which hair vitamins supplements would you recommend?

      1. Thank you! I like the nature’s bounty vitamins 🙂 I need to work on staying away from sugar as well. Portion control has helped me a lot as well.

          1. It’s honestly worth it 🙂 and not too pricey.

    1. Thanks! I think I can and I will! 🙂 I’m so empowered right now! 😀

  10. HI, you have such a great attitude about your goals! I never look at the scale, just monitor how I feel and how my clothes are fitting. It is true that muscle will be heavier, but you will also “feel” leaner. I know that when I am training hard for a half marathon, the food is so important, but how I feel makes it worthwhile. The best of luck to you on this journey!

    1. That attitude is awesome, I never look at it either, just when my appointment is due, but I don’t stress over it meanwhile, I also do that monitoring thing with my clothes, and the leaner feeling is so on point! All my limbs feel perkier already!

  11. Wish you the best on your journey! I tried to gain more muscle too, but eating really is the key. I’m trying to change my eating habits too right now.

    1. And how is it going for you? I’d love to know about your experience! 🙂

      1. Well, I just stopped eating so much junk food and also started eating in smaller portions. I already can see changes!:)

  12. I love this post Daniela! I completely agree that a diet shouldn’t be synonymous with weight loss. I get the same thing – oh you don’t eat french fries because you’re watching your weight…it’s like no not really, I just don’t eat them because I don’t want to put junk in my body. I think if you have that mindset where it’s about fueling your body with all the good foods (nutrients etc.) that keep it going then you will feel great. In regards to cravings, I noticed that mine get crazy if I didn’t have enough food during the day (breakfast and lunch). But when I’m feeling like a sweet treat I have it, or I have the healthy version of it (instead of milk chocolate – dark chocolate, instead of packaged pastries/cakes – I make my own with nutritious ingredients). I think it’s important to listen to your body and give it what it wants in the moment because healthy living is more than just eating healthy your psychological health is important too 🙂 Good luck!

    1. Thanks boo, this was a beautiful comment!! <3 <3 <3

  13. […] I also started going to a nutritionis, that was six week ago, I still haven’t noticed that big a difference, but bae did commented yesterday that I looked leaner, so that’s good I guess, I’m learning to eat healthier and make better food choices, which will translate on a healthier and stronger body, if you want to know more about my reasons to start a diet you can read all about it here. 14. These are such amazing tips! I write about similar topics if you would like to check out my blog!

  15. Yes, a diet is not only about losing weight. Plato in its Charmides wrote ‘..that as you ought not to attempt to cure the eyes without the head, or the head without the body, so neither ought you to attempt to cure the body without the soul’. No healthy mind if the body is not healthy, and it doesn’t necessarily mean ‘thin’.

    1. Beautiful words! Thanks for sharing them with me! 🙂

  16. Great …i wish you will…❤ take care

      1. Your welcome Soriano…💖💖

  17. Totally agree!! Diet should be to improve your health (and weight loss only if needed), but a lot of people don’t get it!!

    1. Absolutely, I guess it’s a cultural thing and an idea created by the media diet=weight loss
