I first heard about The Ordinary from skincare vlogger Rosshana Bracho, a Venezuelan YouTube star based in Mexico City, I remember she mentioned she rarely tried drugstore brands because for a little bit more money she could get really good products from The Ordinary, of course I was thrilled.
Hi there! As you know I’ve become a little bit obsessed with skincare lately and it’s just that I’m super happy cause ever since I started practising religiously my skincare routine I’ve seen so many positive results and I feel my skin looks better than ever, but you know, it’s not all about the products you use (of course they help), but there are some things that won’t cost you extra and will help have healthier skin.
These days there are many great products out there that can help your skin in all sorts of ways, but none will work their best if you don’t periodically help out your skin to better absorb them by exfoliating it, now, in the past we used to think mechanical exfoliation was the best (think sugar scrubs and so), but now we know that is rather abrasive for your skin, these days, chemical exfoliation is all the rage, I know, this may sound a little daunting and you may think this should only be done by a pro, but, nowadays we have many options that are safe enough that can be used by you, from your house.

Now, it’s been a while since I last share with you what’s on my make up bag, there are some products that sometimes I carry with me but I’m not sharing those today cause I just want to share the basics that never leave it.

It wasn’t too long ago that I really started taking really good care of my skin, and while I was doing my research, I came upon several articles and videos that talked wonderfully about the use of vitamin C in your skincare regime, so I decided to try it. I ordered the L-Ascorbic Acid Powder from The Ordinary around July, but it was sold out in Mexico, so I ordered from ASOS, turns out it took forever to get here (close to three months) so right before I went to NYFW I stopped by Sally Beauty and got a vitamin C serum from korean brand Ettang (read my review of the Ettang Charcoal Mask here) and that’s when it all started.

No hace mucho que empecé a cuidar de mi piel muy bien, y mientras investigaba, me encontré varios artículos y videos que hablaban maravillas sobre el uso de vitamina C en tu rutina de cuidado de la piel, así que decidí probar. Ordené el Ácido L-Ascórbico en polvo de The Ordinary por ahí de Julio, pero en México estaba agotado, por lo que lo pedí de ASOS, resulta que tardó años en llegarme porque aduana y correos de México (tres meses más o menos) así que antes de irme a NYFW pasé por un Sally Beauty y compré un suero de vitamina C de la marca coreana Ettang (lee mi reseña de la mascarilla de carbón de Ettang aquí) y fue ahí donde todo empezó.
I started using Ettang’s Vitamin C Perfect Serum two months ago, at first I wasn’t really sure about it because vitamin C is really unstable and it oxidizes quickly which kinda makes it’s point go away, you’re using it cause it is a great anti-oxidant, so liquid versions of the thing tend to not really do anything for your skin, when I first used this the first pump came out dark orange, it was oxidized, but after that first one the liquid came out clear yellowish and smelling strongly of orange.

Empecé a usar el Vitamin C Perfect Serum de Ettang hace como dos meses, al principio le dudé porque la vitamina C es muy inestable y se oxida muy rápido lo cual básicamente invalida su punto, la usas porque es un excelente anti-oxidante, así que las versiones líquidas de la misma suelen no hacer gran cosa por tu piel, la primera vez que usé esta salió de color anaranjado oscuro, estaba oxidado, pero después de esa primera vez el líquido salía amarillo claro y transparente además de tener un fuerte olor a naranja.
After just one week of using the serum day and night after toning my skin I started to see results, my skin was no longer dull, it started to look so luminous and glowy and I was so happy about it, I even started getting compliments on how good my skin looked. Fast forward almost two months and I already finished Ettang’s serum, but in the meantime my The Ordinary package has arrived, for the last 3 weeks I’ve been using The Ordinary’s L-Ascorbic Acid Powder diluted in my moisturizer day and night, and I’m telling you, my skin couldn’t look healthier, I truly am amazed at what Vitamin C can do for your complexion, so if you haven’t tried it, I suggest you do and here are 5 more reasons:

Después de solo una semana de usar el suero día y noche después de mi tónico comencé a ver resultados, mi piel ya no se veía opaca, comenzó a verse luminosa y brillante y estaba super contenta, hasta empecé a recibir cumplidos de lo bien que se veía. This year marked a change in my selfcare routine, cause 2019 was the year I really got into skincare, like, reaaaallyyyy into skincare, 2019 was the year where I developed an actual skincare routine and bought A LOT of different products to try, one of those was The Shortcut, an Overnight Facial Peel by the brand Versed and to be honest, out of all the skincare I got this year this was one of my favorites.
This is the shortcut to glowier skin. In one step, this peel works overnight while you’re far away in dreamland to resurface and renew your complexion. The blend of lactic and glycolic acid (which work together to break down dead skin cells) and vitamin A (one of the most powerful and proven anti-aging ingredients available) exfoliates, brightens, and hydrates while skin-conditioning allantoin, rosehip, and vitamin E keep skin calm. Este año marcó un cambio en mi rutina de selfcare, porque 2019 fue el año en el que me interesé mucho por el skincare, mucho, 2019 fue el año en el que cree una rutina de skincare verdadera y compré un montón de diferentes productos que probar, uno de ellos fue The Shortcut, un peeling facial que funciona durante la noche de la marca Verse y siendo honesta, de todo el skincare que compré este año, este producto fue uno de mis favoritos.
El producto funciona durante la noche para renovar tu piel. Es una mezcla de ácido láctico y glicólico (que trabajan juntos para deshacer las células muertas) y vitamina A (uno de los agentes anti-envejecimiento más poderosos y probados en el mercado) que exfolia, abrillanta e hidrata mientras allantoina, rosehip y vitamina E calman la piel. El producto tiene un pH balanceado, que no reseca, no irrita, básicamente es un peeling sin miedo que no te dejará con la piel descarapelada o enrojecida, (solo luminosa y refrescada). Es lo suficientemente suave como para usarlo varias noches seguidas y se absorbe en la piel como una crema, por lo que tus sábanas están seguras.
I’ve been using this product for the past three months, I use it twice a week, and I’ve seen such good results, on the mornings after I’ve used it my skin feels the softest and it looks so bright and luminous, I love how soft it is on my skin and that it’s making my skin look healthier, I’ve compared to the AHA + BHA 10 minute peeling by The Ordinary and I definitely like this one better, plus it is less aggressive on my skin.

He estado usando este producto durante los últimos 3 meses, lo uso dos veces a la semana y he visto resultados buenísimos, las mañanas después de que lo he usado mi piel se siente super suave y se ve tan luminosa, amo lo suave que es con mi piel y está haciendo que mi piel se vea más saludable, lo he comparado con el peeeling de 10 minutos de The Ordinary y definitivmente este me gusta más, además que es menos agresivo con mi piel.
This is a product that I think is worth every buck, I love that you can find it in two different sizes, and I think this is something that I’ll be re-purchasing over and over as it is so good, I also love that this brand is a clean skincare brand free of bad chemicals like parabens, so I can use it with the confidence that what I’m putting on my skin won’t be bad for it in the long run.

Este es un producto que creo que vale cada centavo, y amo que puedes encontrarlo en dos tamaños diferentes, y creo también que es un producto que volveré a comprar en el futuro porque en verdad es un producto tan bueno, además amo que es una marca limpia de productos para la piel, o sea, libre de químicos malos como los parabenos, así que lo puedo usar con la confianza de que lo que estoy poniéndome en mi cara no es nada tóxico ni dañino para mi piel.

The overall experience was so relaxing, I had a great time and my skin was so soft at the end, it is one of those things that you can do at least once a month to pamper yourself, because, you know, self-care.

This foundation I got to know almost two years ago at MAC‘s Nutcracker Sweet event, and I loved it so much I asked for it as a Christmas gift that year, well, it’s been about year and a half and I’m on my second jar, I love it so much because of how lightweight it is and the fact that’s it’s got SPF, this is a foundation I recommend to everyone I come in contact with, so if you’re looking for a lightweight foundation that takes care of your skin at the same time, this is it.

Esta base la conocí hace casi dos años en el evento MAC Nutcracker Sweet, y me gustó tanto que la pedí como regalo de Navidad ese año, bueno, pues ha pasado año y medio y ya voy en mi segundo frasco, me gusta muchísimo porque es muy ligera y además tiene FPS, es una base que le recomiendo a todo el mundo que conozco, así que si buscas una base ligera que además cuide tu piel, esta es la indicada.
This browliner is by a Mexican make up brand called Republic Cosmetics and it is part of Mexican youtuber Yuya’s makeup line, I started using it at the end of last year I believe, and I’ve already gone through 3 pencils, I like how well done my eyebrows look when I use this liner, and it is pretty affordable (less than 8 dollars per pencil), I normally get it at department stores but you can also find it at a drugstore and online.

Este delineador es de una marca de maquillaje Mexicana que se llama Republic Cosmetics y es parte de la línea de maquillaje de la youtuber Mexicana Yuya, comencé a usar este lápiz a finales del año pasado, y ya voy en mi tercero, me encanta como me deja las cejas y que cuenta con un cepillito para cejas, es bastante accesible ($158.00 pesos mexicanos), normalmente lo compro en Liverpool, pero lo puedes encontrar en las Farmacias Guadalajara y en línea en la página de Republic Cosmetics.
What can I say about this oil that I haven’t said before? This is one of my favorite products to moisturize ever! It is by an independent brand called Ina Villarreal, this smells so good and leaves my face feeling like a baby’s butt, I love it and my mom love’s it, I’ve gone through 3 jars of this thing and I’m on my fourth one already, I just can’t get enough of it. It contains argan, rosehip and jojoba oil which are amazing for your skin.

¿Qué les puedo decir de éste aceite que no les haya dicho antes? ¡Este es uno de mis productos hidratantes favoritos! Es de una marca independiente llamada Ina Villarreal, huele delicioso y hace que mi cara se sienta como trasero de bebé, me encanta y a mi mamá también, me he acabado 3 frascos de esto y estoy por empezar con el cuarto, no me canso de él, super recomiendo y lo consigues en Amazon y en algunos puntos de venta en México. Contiene aceites de argán, rosa mosqueta y jojoba, que son buenísimos para la piel.
I got this when I bought Benefit’s Bigger & Bolder Brows kit at Ulta and this was my favorite of the three products in it, what I loved the most about it is its brush, since it’s kinda flat it really helps in shaping your eyebrows, I think this is totally worth it and it is definitely a product I’ll be repurchasing.

Adquirí este cuando compré el kit de Benefit llamado Bigger & Bolder Brows en Ulta, de los tres productos que venían en el kit este fue mi favorito, podría prescindir de los otros dos, pero este totalmente vale la pena, es un gel fijador de cejas, pero lo mejor de todo es el cepillo que viene con él ya que es como un cepillo de rímel pero plano y ayuda muchísimo a darle forma a las cejas, es sin duda un producto que volvería a comprar.
I found out about this brand about 5 years ago when I got two sample sized lip balms as a Birthday gift from my Sephora Beauty Insider card, at the time I fell in love with them and used both of them to the last drop, now fast forward to October last year and I went to Sephora and saw that Sephora in Mexico also carries the brand, I was beyond excited, so I got one and oh my, I remembered why I’d love the brand in the first place, this is another I’ll be repurchasing pretty soon as I’ve already run out of it and my lips are craving it.
