Last week one of my dreams came true, I got to attend NYFW for the first time as a blogger, I’d been dreaming of that day for so many years and now I finally managed to make it happen, cause yes, dreams don’t just happen, you have to work and make them happen.
I started planning for NYFW at the beginning of this year, and at some point I became discouraged with the idea, after all I’m not a huge blogger so why would I even get invites to all these shows right? But since I already had plane tickets and hotel reservations for that week, I decided I might as well give it a try, and to my surprise I got around 10 invites for this season, to be honest I couldn’t believe it and was beyond happy before even leaving for New York. I planned all my outfits carefuly, made my bags and got on a plane NYC bound.

La semana pasada se cumplió uno de mis sueños, pude ir al NYFW por primera vez como blogger, había soñado con ese momento desde hace varios años y había logrado hacerlo suceder, porque sí, los sueños no sólo pasan, trabajas por ellos y los haces suceder.
Comencé a planear para el NYFW a principios de este año, y en algún momento me desanimé con la idea, después de todo no soy una blogger enorme, así que ¿por qué habrían de considerarme si quiera? Pero como ya tenía boletos de avión y reservaciones de hotel para esa semana decidí intentarlo, no perdía nada, para mi sorpresa recibí cerca de 10 invitaciones para esta temporada, siendo honesta no me la creía y estaba más que feliz aún desde antes de irme a Nueva York, planeé todos mis outfits cuidadosamente, empaqué mis maletas y me subí en un avión con destino a NY.
The day of my arrival I was supposed to go to my first show, but I wasn’t going to make it on time, so I ended up RSVPing no to the event which really bummed me out. The following day I was invited to Oxford Studios’ 3 shows, but I ended up RSVPing yes only to the first one, the night before I started to get really excited and nervous, but I was allowed to bring with me 2 guests to this shows so that’s what I did. The show was at Pier 59 Studios in Chelsea, I got there about 20 minutes before the show and as I walked to the entrance and started seeing people I started getting so nervous. I walked past the people outside and the photographers (yes there were lots of them), and I got in line, being completely honest with you guys I was so nervous and at that moment I felt so unsure of my outfit, like I wasn’t dressed up well enough for such an event, but later on I was reassured and then I saw people just wearing jeans and a t-shirt so I calmed down.
After about 20 minutes of half an hour we were let into the venue, where we had to make a line again, it was then when I realized where I was and what was happening, I’d made it to NYFW like 20 year old me dreamed once, I was sweating a little bit but I tried to keep my cool, as my hands and knees shook, then finally they let us into the room where the seats were, we were to take any second or third row seats available, so we did. The room wasn’t as big as I expected, but it was full of people, all of them with amazing outfits, some of them chatting up, some of them on their phones, we sat there for close to 15 minutes (you actually spend more time waiting than at the actual show) and then the show started, minutes later it was done and we were shown outside for a champagne toast at the terrace and some mingling and networking, the vibe was amazing, it gave off a sense of community and about 30 minutes later it was done and we were leaving.

El día que llegue se suponía que tenía mi primer show, pero no iba a alcanzar a llegar a tiempo, así que terminé por cancelar mi asistencia lo cual odié tener que hacer. Al día siguiente tenía invitaciones para los tres shows de Oxford Studios, pero sólo confirmé mi asistencia al primero, la noche anterior empecé a emocionarme y ponerme nerviosa, pero me habían permitido llevar conmigo dos invitados así que eso hice. El show fue en Pier 59 Studios en Chelsea, llegamos como 20 minutos antes del show y mientras caminaba a la entrada y empecé a ver gente me empecé a poner de nervios. Caminé pasando a la gente y los fotógrafos (sí, había un montón), y me formé en la fila, siendo completamente honesta estaba tan nerviosa y me sentía tan insegura de mi outfit, sentía que no me había arreglado lo suficiente para el evento, pero luego se me pasó y vi gente en jeans y una playera así que me tranquilicé.
Después de 20 minutos o media hora nos dejaron entrar al lugar, ahí tuvimos que formarnos nuevamente, y fue ahí cuando me di cuenta de dónde estaba y lo que pasaba, había logrado llegar al NYFW como lo soñé a los 20 años, estaba sudando un poquito pero intenté mantenerme tranquila aunque mis manos y rodillas temblaban, luego por fin nos dejaron pasar a la habitación donde estaban los asientos y la pasarela, nos dijeron que tomáramos cualquier asiento disponible de segunda o tercera fila. El lugar en sí no era tan grande como yo esperaba, pero estaba lleno, todos tenían outfits increíbles, algunos de ellos platicaban entre sí, otros estaban pendientes de sus teléfonos, estuvimos así durante casi 15 minutos (la verdad es que pasas más tiempo en filas y esperando que lo que dura el show) y luego empezó, minutos después había terminado y nos llevaron a la terraza para un brindis con champagne y hacer amigos, la vibra super cool, me dio un sentido de comunidad y 30 minutos después íbamos de salida.
The rest of the week went on pretty much the same except I was by myself on most of the shows, for one I met a Venezuelan friend from Instagram who was there as well for her first fashion week ever, it was such an amazing experience getting to meet friends who share the same passions as you, and who are on the same path followig their dreams, I loved meeting you Ale! For another one I made a friend as I was standing in line, her name’s Leigh and she’s got the cutest style.
The vibe at the shows is so amazing, you get all this possitive energy and excitement before the show and afterwards is also a great experience as you can get to mingle and maybe make some new friends or say hi to the PR who invited you to the show, cause this is the perfect opportunity to network and build relationships with the brands. At first shows can be a little daunting, but once you’re there and relax a bit Fashion Week is a great experience if this is what you love.

El resto de la semana se paso en lo mismo, excepto que estuve sola en la mayoría de los shows, en uno pude conocer a una amiga Venezolana de Instagram que también estaba ahpi para su primer Fashion Week, fue una experiencia genial poder conocer amigas que comparten la misma pasión que tú, ¡amé conocerte Ale! En otro show hice una nueva amiga en la fila para entrar al show, ella se llama Leigh y tiene un estilo vintage que es divino.
La viba en los shows es increíble, se siente una energía muy bonita y positiva y la emoción de todos los que están ahí, después del show también puedes pasar una experiencia muy cool ya que puedes hablar y relacionarte y quizá hacer amigos nuevos o saludar al PR que te invitó al show, esta es la oportunidad perfecta para hacer contactos y crear relaciones con las marcas. Al principio pueden parecer medio terroríficos, pero ya que estás ahí y te relajas un poco es algo único en la vida que debes experimentar si esto es lo que amas.
