Hi guys! Today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite cities ever, you guessed it, New York! This year I visited NYC for the eight time and I thought it would be great if I could share with you 5 tips you’ll love to have if this is your first time in the city, so keep reading, and also, feel free to share your tips on the comments down below.

USE THE SUBWAY AND GET THE WEEKLY PASS IF YOU’RE STAYING THERE FOR 5 DAYS OR MORE

Using the subway may be daunting if it’s your first time in New York, but it is actually the fastest way to get around that won’t break the bank and won’t leave you exhausted, make sure you download the Subway app to your phone and purchase a 7-Day Unlimited Ride card for only $33, which is a steal considering a single ride costs $3.00, if you’re staying longer than 2 weeks, then I’d consider buying the 30-Day Unlimited Ride for $127.00

USE FREE DAYS AT THE MUSEUMS OR PAY WHAT YOU CAN

New York has A LOT of cool museums, and most of them charge for entering, but visiting museums in New York doesn’t have to be a huge investment, most of them have free days or pay what you can fees, so plan ahead and do your research so you can take advantage of this.

Nueva York tiene UN MONTÓN de museos y la mayoría cobra el acceso, pero visitar museos en Nueva York no tiene por qué ser una mega inversión, la mayoría tiene ciertos días de la semana/mes en los cuales el acceso es gratuito, también hay museos en los que puedes dar una cooperación simbólica que es dejada a tu consideración. Así que planea con tiempo tu visita para que puedas aprovechar estos días.

DON’T TAKE THE STATUE OF LIBERTY FERRIES

Seriously, paying a ferry tour to Liberty Island isn’t worth it, a free way to see the Statue of Liberty is taking the ferry to Staten Island from Battery Park, it is free and runs 365 days of the year 24/7, so get into it, ride all the way to Staten Island and get on the first one back to Manhattan!

LEARN TO NAVIGATE THE CITY

New York is a city meant to be walked, so learning how to navigate the city will save you time and trouble, here’s what you need to know:

Odd-numbered streets go west and even-numbered streets go east.
Fifth Avenue splits NYC’s streets between east and west.
Black dots on the subway map represent local stops and white ones signify express stops.
In most of Manhattan, the uptown train platform is on the east side of the street and downtown is on the west.
The major avenues in Manhattan alternate directions.
Uptown is North and Downtown is South of the island.
Don’t try to take a cab between 4-5pm as it is the shift change and it’s near impossible.

No intentes tomar un taxi entre 4-5pm ya que es el cambio de turno y te resultará imposible.

Let’s face it, you’re going to want to take really cute pictures while in New York, so make sure you choose your outfits wisely, check the weather a few days before your trip to make sure you’re prepared, also make sure to wear comfy shoes and choose outfits that are not only cute but also practical and comfy as you’ll be probably in those clothes all day long.

NYFW: NEGRIS LEBRUM SPRING SUMMER 2020

Negris LeBrum launched their Black Berry collection during New York Fashion Week (Spring/Summer 2020) on Sunday September 8th, 2019.

This season the brand’s Black Berry Collection represents inclusion and the cultural history of Negris LeBrum. The term Black Berry is a southern expression, often used to describe the beauty of a black woman or man. The foundation of the brand has always been rooted in the Negris love story. Each collection is defined by the boldness of the color black that reflects the brand slogan: Lenoir est Joli.

I want to talk especially about this show, this was my first front row show ever and I’m super thankful for it. This show was quite the experience, the location was White Space Chelsea, an art gallery in, you guessed it, Chelsea, I got there early and I got to meet some lovely ladies (shout out to Jan, Jen and Alexandra!), when it was time for the show to start we were let in and to my surprise I had a front row seat!

From the moment the show started I knew it was going to be one that I enjoyed a lot, the music was amazing and I feel it complimented the collection amazingly, I loved the 50’s/60’s vibe to it, the headscarves were a chic touch and I loved the big sunglasses, the dresses were a dream, my favorite was the wrap checked shirt dress, I was so into the color palette chosen by the designer for this collection, I think it was so sophisticated.

I got some amazing goodies from the brand and after the show I got to meet the designer and they were so amazing, I loved talking to them and thanked them for the invite, this was certainly one of the best things of the night.

THE OCULUS

The Oculus is what the World Trade Center Transportation Hub is called, it was opened in 2016 and it’s an amazing feat of architechture by Spanish architecht, Santiago Calatrava, the whole building is white with amazing marble floors and great lighting, this is a must see and I’m sure you’ll want to take pictures in here.

El Oculus es el nombre dado a la Estación de Transporte del WTC, fue inagurada en 2016 y es una impresionante pieza de arquitectura del arquitecto Español, Santiago Calatrava, todo el edificio es blanco con increíbles pisos de mármol e iluminación perfecta, es un edificio que no te puedes perder y estoy segura de que morirás por tomarte fotos aquí.

OWTC

World Trade Center, New York, NY 10006, EE. UU.

OWTC is short for One World Trade Center which is also known as Freedom Tower, this is the main building of the current WTC in NY, it is the tallest building in the city and the western hemisphere and the 6th tallest building in the world, it was designed by David Childs, and it has a 360° observatory on its 100th floor which makes for an amazing picture spot.

OWTC es la abreviatura para One World Trade Center, también conocido como Freedom Tower o La Torre de la Libertad, este es el edificio principal en el actual WTC en NY, es el edificio más alto en la ciudad y el hemisferio occidental, y el sexto más alto en el mundo, fue diseñado por el arquitecto David Childs y cuenta con un mirador de 360° en el piso 100 lo cual lo vuelve un lugar increíble para fotos.

BROOKLYN BRIDGE/DUMBO

The Brookly Bridge is a NYC classic, and you have to cross it by foot at least once, plus it makes for a great picture spot since you get to see the impressive Manhattan skyline! If you do end up making it all the way to Brooklyn I suggest you make the walk to DUMBO (short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) and take the iconic picture with the amazing view of the Manhattan Bridge in the back (please note that the bridge you’ll be seeing is not the Broolyn Bridge but the Manhattan one).

El Puente de Brooklyn es un clásico de NY, y tienes que cruzarlo a pie aunque sea una vez en la vida, además de que es un excelente lugar para fotos, ya que ¡puedes ver el horizonte de Manhattan en todo su esplendor! Si cruzas hasta Brooklyn yo te sugeriría que camines hasta DUMBO (abreviatura de Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) y te tomes la icónica foto con la maravillosa vista del Puente de Manhattan en el fondo (aclaro, el puente que verás desde ahí es el Manhattan, no el de Brooklyn).

SOHO

466 Broome St, New York, NY 10013, EE. UU.

SoHo is one of Manhattan’s chic-est neighbourhoods, it used to be a low neighbourhood back in the 1800’s and was part of the so called Cast Iron District, it became a famous neighbourhood in the 60’s and 70’s because many artists made it their home since the abandoned industrial spaces were turned into lofts with low rental prices, as time went by it became popular as an artsy place full of galeries, retail spaces and exclusive restaurants, the name SoHo comes from South of Houston Street. This area of the city is beautiful because it is home to some of the eldest buildings, with their cast iron facades and the coblestone streets, every street makes for a wonderful picture spot.

El SoHo es uno de los barrios más chic de Manhattan, solía ser un barrio bajo en los 1800’s y era parte del llamado Distrito del Hierro Forjado, se volvió un barrio famoso en los 60’s y 70’s ya que muchos artistas lo volvieron su hogar debido a que los espacios industriales eran convertidos en lofts con precios de renta muy bajos, conforme pasó el tiempo se volvió una área popular y bohemia, llena de galerías, boutiques de lujo y restaurantes exclusivos, el nombre SoHo viene de South of Houston Street (Sur de la Calle Houston). Esta área de la ciudad es hermosa con algunos de los edificios más antiguos, con fachadas de hierro forjado y calles empedradas, cada calle es un lugar perfecto para una foto.

FLATIRON BUILDING

175 5th Ave, New York, NY 10010, EE. UU.

This iconic building used to be one of Manhattan’s tallest, it was built in 1902 by architecht Daniel Burnham, and it’s original name was Fuller Building; Manhattanites of the time nicknamed it Flatiron Building due to its resemblance of irons of the time, nowadays the district where it’s located is called Flatiron District in its honour.

Another one of Manhattan’s observatories, located on top of Rockefeller Center (hence its name) this one is another 360° one, from here you have the most amazing views of the Empire State Building and Central Park!

EMPIRE STATE BUILDING

The name of this building comes from the nickname the State of New York has (it is known as the Empire State), this building was the tallest in New York for over 40 years, nowadays is the 5th tallest building in the city, it was built between 1930 and 1931 by architecht William F. Lamb, this is probably the most iconic building in New York and its observation deck is a must when you’re in the city.

Central Park is an urban park in New York City, located between the Upper West Side and the Upper East Side. It is the most visited urban park in the US, with an estimated 37.5–38 million visitors annually, and one of the most filmed locations in the world. The park is huge and has lots of instagrammable spots such as The Bow Bridge, The Bethesda Terrace/Fountain, The Pond, Strawberry Fields, etc.

Central Park es un parque urbano en Nueva York, está localizado entre el Upper West Side y el Upper East Side. Es el parque urbano más visitado en Estados Unidos, con un estimado de 38 millones de visitantes anuales, y es una de las locaciones más filmadas en el mundo. CHA CHA MATCHA

Cha Cha Matcha is probably one of the most instagramed ~~coffee~~ matcha shops in the world, it opened in 2016 and is popular for its quirky decor, and matcha based drinks and softserve cones, nowadays it has multiple locations in New York and LA, but the original is the one on Broome Street (the one I visited during my latest trip).

Cha Cha Matcha es probablemente una de las cafeterías especializadas en matcha más instagrameadas en el mundo, abrió en 2016 y es popular por su decoración verde con rosa y sus bebidas con base de matcha y helados de matcha, actualmente cuenta con múltiples locaciones en Nueva York y Los Angeles, pero la original es la que está en Broome Street en NOLITA (fue la que yo visité).

THE VESSEL AT HUDSON YARDS

The Shops and Restaurants at Hudson Yards, New York, NY 10001, Estados Unidos

The extraordinary centerpiece of Hudson Yards is its spiral staircase, a soaring new landmark meant to be climbed. NYFW: LIU YONG X RISHIKENSH

Famed Chinese designer Liu Yong collaborated with Rishikensh on their Spring/Summer 2020 capsule, presenting an unapologetic streetwear collection that gave new meaning to the athleisure category.

The collection was bold in color, tie-dye centric, yet very monochromatic. Redefining street style, the collection unfolded with neon blue, orange, and green jumpsuits, tank tops and t-shirts, layered with perforated-mesh overcoats and hoodies. Clear raincoats with neon piping accessorized several looks, allowing for the colorful silhouettes to breakthrough on the runway.

The tie-dye process the designer abides by is less traditional than other brands, “We first make each look and then tie-dye the completed piece, using organic dye colors; where as many tie-dye the fabric before constructing the look.” the designer explained. Liu Yong even tie-dyed fleece hoodies and jackets and used a plethora of black dye, for a unique, monochromatic take on typical tie-dye style.

Showcasing some pint-sized wear, but keeping the swag strong, kids rocked the runway with looks inspired by the womens and menswear. Graphic prints, knee high tube socks and cross body bags hit the runway – no minimum age required.

The designer presented a collection that truly exuberated confidence to a fully packed house at Spring Studios for the sixth day of NYFW.

Liu Yong is regarded as one of the top 10 fashion designers in China; sitting on multiple boards for several Chinese fashion associations. He has been a respected consultant to many fashion groups in China for over 15 years; since the inception of his namesake brand.

The designer wanted to evoke athleisure as a feeling, a sense of slow fashion, by way of the apparel design and production process. Describing his streetwear, “Whether it’s yoga or dancing, you can do so in any of the designs – with a concentrated attitude. We use the softest cotton and other recycled textiles, so that our customer feels comfortable and concious” continued Yong.

NYFW: DAMOWANG SPRING SUMMER 2020

DAMOWANG SS20 continues to take WU XIA, a representative culture in modern China, as a conflation of modern and traditional elements; contrasting the ever changing fashion trends with the reserved temperament of the contemporary independent woman. The end design is a fusion of the Chinese element of external grafting with the inner temperament devoid of symbolism where image and entity are intertwined.

There is no fixed boundary between WU XIA and the realm in which it resides. The image is a blend where ancient and modern are entangled. It is only with the help of modern design techniques and materials that the designer can rescue WU XIA from strangulation of contemporary culture.

As a designer, Mr. Han Lei believes that people are living in fragments, and each fragment of reality is superposed into memory. The memory he uses in the SS20 Collection, is that of WU XIA. By adopting his usual splicing alongside other elements: the mixing and matching of layered fabrics, wool, flax, organza, coating, rope, animal texture, fishnet, sheepskin, meteor hammer, bamboo tube, headscarf, cloth bag, etc. All these elements play a crucial role in the DAMOWANG show, enabling the designer to specify his role in the virtual and real space of both the scene and image. The designer has turned the classical square plaid pattern, oversize shoulder-pads, various colors, the splicing and superimposition of different materials into a wonderful adhesive-collocating the ancient and modern elements in a new way. The extensive use of hat ornaments and shawls also adds to the erratic and elusive characteristics of WU XIA.

Leveraging the positive feedback from the shoes co-branded with MYWANTS last season, the two designers increased collaboration this season by using classic elements of raw edges, worn-in stylesand splicing to deliver an array of flats, sneakers, boots and slippers with artistic and modern characteristics.

Another collaboration partner is MESHEEN on bags; reshaping life elements such as bamboo, ropes, and dim sum patterns, so as to extend the depth of DAMOWANG’s potential in fashion.

Oxford Studio was my first show this season, and my first show ever, so I’ll probably always remember it, it took place on September 8th at Pier59 Studios, and oh my was I excited to attend my first Fashion Week show ever, so today I want to share with you some of my favorite looks from their show.

NYFW: HOUSE OF NONIE

Out of the shows I was able and blessed enough to attend this season I think Nonie’s was my favorite, why? Well, because I identified myself deeply with it’s aesthetic, the Canadian brand is known for its impeccable construction and its feminine lines.

De todos los shows a los que pude asistir esta temporada, creo que el de Nonie fue mi favorito, ¿por qué? Porque me identifiqué con su estética, la marca Canadiense es conocida por su construcción impecable, sastreada y de líneas femeninas.

The collection was inspired by Indian design and we were able to see plenty of transparencies, draped silhouttes and lots of sheen in the form of satin, I loved how you can see the resemblance to classical Indian pieces with a touch of softness, nonchalance and the modern woman. There’s use of bright colors that are key to Indian dressing, yes, but just small pops of it here and there, mantaining most of the collection monochrome and minimal.

La coleccion fue inspirada por el diseño Hindú y pudimos ver muchas transparencias, siluetas drapeadas y mucho brillo en la forma de satín, me encantó como puedes ver cierta alución a piezas clasicas hindús con un toque de suavidad, desenfado y modernidad. Hay uso de colores brillantes, que son clave en el vestido hindú, sí, pero solo pequeños toques aquí y allá, manteniendo la mayoría de la colección monocromática y minimalista.

NYFW: MARCEL OSTERTAG SPRING/SUMMER 2019

One of the shows I got an invite for this season, was Marcel Ostertag’s Spring/Summer collection called MUSE, it was his sixth time showing during New York Fashion Week and the first time ever for the men’s line.

Una de las pasarelas a las que fui invitada esta temporada fue la de Marcel Ostertag, quien presentó su colección Primavera/Verano llamada MUSE, fue su sexta presentación durante NYFW y la primera vez que mostró algo de su línea masculina.

The collection shown was full of color, and it was “influenced deeply by the close relationships with the muses in his life.” That’s why he presented this collection as a tribute to the women he values most in his life, and chose to dedicate it to them, especially his mother. “Said the designer after his show, “My mother’s love and guidance are always present in my heart. Her unwavering support allows me to design freely and to follow my creative dreams.””

La colección presentada fue una llena de color, y fue influenciada fuertemente por las relaciones cercanas con las musas en su vida. Es por ello que esta colección fue un tributo a las mujeres que más valora en su vida, y decidió dedicarla a ellas, en especial su madre. “El amor y la guía de mi mamá siempre están presentes en mi corazón. Su apoyo incondicional me permite diseñar libremente y seguir mis sueños creativos” dijo el diseñador después del show.

Music, art and fashion from the 70’s were also big influences for this collection, we were able to see pleated pants, bell sleeve tops, sequins and the popular wrap dress from that decade, but still keeping the collection up to date and modern. Colors like yellow, blue, lavender and orange were the shades that caught our eyes this season, showcasing pieces like the incredible rainbow sweater and lots of embroidered and beaded pieces, this was an interesting collection to see. As for the gentlemen? Ostertag proposes we see them trying color blocking next season.

La música, arte y moda de los 70’s fueron también fuertes influencias en esta colección, pudimos ver pantalones plisados, tops con mangas acampanadas, lentejuelas y el populat vestido envolvente de esa década, pero aún así manteniendo la colección al día y moderna. Colores como el amarillo, azul, lavanda y naranja fueron los que capturaron nuestra mirada esta temporada, mostrando piezas como el increíble suéter de arcoíris y muchas prendas bordadas, fue sin duda una colección bastante interesante. ¿Y para los hombres? Ostertag propone que intenten usar bloques de color la próxima temporada.

As you know me I couldn’t miss the shoes, lots of block heels, suede, kitten heels and knee lenght boots! That according to the press release, were “produced by German footwear manufacturef Tamaris.”

Y como ya saben, yo no perdí detalle de los zapatos, tacones anchos, gamuza, kitten heels y ¡botas a la rodilla! Que según el paquete de prensa, fueron producidos por la marca de calzado alemán Tamaris.

10 REASONS WHY I LOVE NYC

I haven’t travelled much, but I know in my heart that New York is my favorite place in the whole wide world, so much that this week I’m here for the 7th time in my life, and altough this time it is different cause I’m here for NYFW I plan to enjoy is as much as always. Why do you love New York so much? you ask, well, I want to share with you 10 of those reasons, cause if you’ve never been here, it might be hard to understand, if you have, you probably know.

No he viajado mucho, pero en mi corazón yo se que Nueva York es mi lugar favorito en el mundo entero, tan así que esta semana estoy aquí por séptima vez en mi vida, y aunque en esta ocasión es una experiencia diferente porque estoy aquí para Fashion Week, planeo disfrutarlo tanto como siempre. ¿Por qué amas tanto Nueva York? Pues, les quiero compartir 10 de mis razones, porque si nunca has estado aquí, quizá sea difícil entenderlo, si ya fuiste, entonces seguramente ya lo sepas.

ITS DIVERSITY

I don’t think there’s a city more diverese in the whole world, here you can find people from all over, places you didn’t even knew existed, there’s people from there in New York, and they all have amazing life stories that you’d like to listen to, this makes the city open to everything, cause so many ideologies converge in one small piece of land and concrete.

SU DIVERSIDAD

Dudo mucho que exista una ciudad más diversa en el mundo entero, aquí puedes encontrar gente de todos lados, lugares que ni sabías que existían, hay gente de ahí viviendo aquí, y es que todos tienen alguna historia increíble de vida que te encantaría escuchar, el hecho de que tantas culturas converjan en un pedazo de tierra y concreto tan pequeño hace que sea una ciudad abierta a todo.

THE FOOD

Picture this, a city with millions of people with different ethnicities, backgrounds, nationalities, cultures, religions, they all miss the food from their motherland so what do they do? They bring it home. This makes New York not only a culturally diverse city but also a culinarylly diverse one, here you can find the most amazing dishes from every corner on earth, plus weird and delicious mash ups that have come to exist thanks to the fact that all these people coexist in Manhattan.

LA COMIDA

Imagina esto, una ciudad con millones de personas de etnias, pasados, nacionalidades, culturas, religiones diferentes, todas ellas extrañan la comida de su lugar de origen, así que, ¿qué hacen? La traen a casa. Esto hace que Nueva York no solo sea una ciudad con diversidad cultural si no con una diversidad culinaria impresionante, aquí puedes encontrar los platillos más increíbles de cada rincón del planeta, además de mezclas extrañas y deliciosas que son resultado del hecho de que toda esta gente coexiste en Manhattan.

THE ARCHITECTURE

New York has been around for quite a while now (394 years) and has stood the pass of time, has seen lots of things and so have its buildings, a city that’s been around for so long is bound to have an incredibly amazing mixture of architectonic styles, and that is the case with New York, so it’s always interesting to admire all these different styles while strolling around the city.

LA ARQUITECTURA

Nueva York existe desde hace un tiempo (394 años) y ha soportado el paso del tiempo, ha visto montones de cosas y también lo han hecho sus edificios, una ciudad que ha existido durante tanto tiempo está destinada a tener una increíble mezcla de estilos arquitectónicos, y eso sucede aquí, así que siempre resulta interesante admirar todos los edificios, y la mezcla de la que hablo, mientras caminas por la ciudad.

HOW IT MAKES ME FEEL

New York is a city where people come to make their dreams come true, it’s a city known for its opportunities and stories of success, it is where modern fairy tales are born. Whenever I’m in New York I feel like anything’s possible, like magic can happen and dreams come true, and for a little while, I feel like I belong, it’s just a magical feeling that always fills me up with energy and happiness.

CÓMO ME HACE SENTIR

Nueva York es una ciudad donde la gente viene a cumplir sus sueños, es una ciudad conocida por sus oportunidades e historias de éxito, es donde los cuentos de hadas modernos nacen. Cuando estoy en Nueva York siento que todo es posible, como que la magia existe y los sueños sí se vuelven realidad, y durante un tiempo siento que pertenezco y encajo, es una sensación de magia que siempre me llena de energía y felicidad.

THE STREET STYLE

I live in a small city in central Mexico, catholisism is our main religion and it is a big deal for most people, people in here are rarely adventurous with fashion if at all, and I am me, it is weird dressing however you want/like when you live in a city like this, when you know people will stare, and it’s even harder to find clothing that you actually like and not everyone else in town is wearing, so whenever I’m in New York I love people watching cause you can find people with some amazing style, I also enjoy being able to dress a little more adventurously and people not caring at all, plus all the shopping.

EL ESTILO

Vivo en una pequeña ciudad en el centro de México, el catolicismo es la religión oficial y es bastante importante para mucha gente, las personas son poco aventadas con la moda si es que llegan a probar algo nuevo, y yo soy yo, vestirte como te da la gana cuando vives en una ciudad así, cuando sabes que te van a ver, es difícil, aún más difícil es encontrar ropa genial que no todos los demás ya estén usando, así que cuando voy a Nueva York me encanta observar a la gente porque hay personas con un estilo increíble, además de que me da la oportunidad de vestirme un poco diferente porque a la gente no le importa lo que usas, además, todas las tiendas geniales en las cuales comprar.

IT’S ALWAYS CHANGING

New York is never the same, and yet it feels so familiar at the same time, I like that everytime I go it feels different in some way, people is always evolving, changing, moving forward, and you can feel it.

SIEMPRE ESTÁ CAMBIANDO

Nunca es la misma ciudad, y aún así se siente tan familiar a la vez, me gusta que cada que voy se siente diferente de un modo u otro, la gente está evolucionando, cambiando, yendo hacia adelante, y puedes sentirlo.

HOW IT FEELS MAGICAL

I’ve always had this feeling that anything can happen to you in here and that a bad day in New York is still better than a good day anywhere else. I guess it’s part of its magic.

Siempre he sentido que todo puede pasarte aquí, y que un día malo en Nueva York es mejor que un día bueno en cualquier otro lugar. Supongo que es parte de su magia.

ITS SURPRISES

There’s something unexpected to find that inevitably will make your day, there’s always a hidden gem on the next block, or a street performer who’s super talented, or someone who wants to be kind to you just because.

Siempre hay algo inesperado que encontrar y que inevitablemente te hará el día, siempre hay una joya perdida en la siguiente cuadra, un artista callejero que te sorprenderá con su talento o quizá alguien que tiene ganas de ser amable contigo sólo porque sí.

IT’S FULL OF ART

Everywhere you look, there’s a museum here, there’s theater, there’s a performance going on the street, there’s music, street art, books, poetry, and fashion, everywhere you look, there’s art going on around you.

Some of my happiest memories belong to New York, it’s a city I’ve been to with people I love, it’s a city that’s made me laugh and appreciate how wonderful life is and how lucky I am.
